Our
Story

The Wilkinson farm at Yellow Grass was founded by our great-great grandfather Michael (M.A.) Wilkinson in 1899.  It persevered through the generations, passing from M.A. to Wilbur, to Doug, to Ron, and finally to the current owners, Jeff & Tyler.  Through the challenges, each generation continued to build the farm and propel it forward to keep pace with the times.  Wilbur took it from horse & threshing machine to tractor and combine.  Doug diversified the farm adding a dairy to the mixed farming operation, and then later selling the animals and specializing into grain-only production.  In the early 90s, Ron brought the farm inline with zero till, continuous cropping best practices and diversified production to include pulses and oilseeds.  Upon Ron’s retirement in 2022, Tyler and Jeff Wilkinson formed 2nd Century Joint Venture to carry the tradition forward through the 21st century.  We hope our contributions will set the 6th generation for as much success as our predecessors.

What sets us apart is our focus on the long game.  For agriculture to be successful, it must be infinitely sustainable, both agronomically and economically.  We try to keep that in mind in all of our dealings.  None of our employees are paid strictly by the hour, none of our landlords are paid solely in a cash transaction.  We try our best to foster long-term, win-win relationships with neighbors, colleagues, and business partners.  We think we’ve done pretty well so far.  Here's to the next 100 years of Saskatchewan agriculture!
